Yasaka Ramen | Sydney CBD

Yasaka Ramen is conveniently located in the Sydney city centre. The restaurant prides themself for their ramen, living by the quote "No Ramen No Life" so you can tell we were quite excited to be ordering some ramen! There are two levels to this establishment, the bottom level of the restaurant has very limited bar seats and you must be lucky to one of these seats to watch all the chefs in action. There are plenty of seats located upstairs but you may find yourself queuing up on a weeknight.

Grilled cheese Takoyaki
Yasaka's home made fresh Takoyaki is crispy outside and creamy inside. The Takoyaki ball is huge and the cheese made it that much more photo worthy. The sauce was deee-lish and once you order one, you can't stop! You know how much we love our cheesy food, so this is no different. If it has cheese, we say yes please. I can't wait to try other flavours like special takoyaki sauce, soy sauce, spicy mayo, negi ponzu mayo and teritama.

Ikayaki
We've seen Ikayaki in Osaka but regrettably didn't try it! Little did we know, Ikayaki is a hard dish to find in Sydney. Ikayaki (squid pancake) is a local specialty of Osaka. They mix fresh squid with hand kneaded dough and quickly BBQ both sides at once. The flavours of this dish were quite suprisingly similar to that of an okonomiyaki, however with a texture of a pancake. This was a great dish, thank you Kayla for recommending to try this dish!

Tonkotsu Miso Egg Ramen
Yasaka's original Tonkotsu soup is seasoned with specially blended miso paste topped with chashu, spring onion, bamboo shoots and corn. I added soft boiled egg as always with ramen. The miso broth was quite thick and could be considered quite heavy on the stomach. We normally prefer the lighter clear soup ramen bowls as it is much easier to eat, and you don't walk away feeling like a balloon. We also tried the Tonkotsu Shoyu soup which had a much more subtle taste than the miso.

There is also the option to create your own ramen! You select EVERYTHING from the broth, to the meat and even the additional toppings! The staff will also allow you to customise an existing ramen to your liking (i.e. to have a light soup and to have your soup more salty).

Thank you Kayla and Yuri from Washoku Lovers for the invitation.
