Koi Dessert Bar | Chippendale
Australia's beloved Reynold Poernomo gave us all a reason to start watching MasterChef again back in 2015, now he is giving us a reason to abandon our Summer bodies and indulge with his masterful dessert creations. Koi Dessert Bar is located in Spice Alley, Chippendale. It features several eye tantalizing desserts at the ground floor patisserie cafe, as well as a 6 course dinner menu or a 4 course dessert menu for the venturous.
We visited the patisserie after dinner on a Friday night, when seats are very limited. We ended up ordering two desserts from the counter and eating it at the Central Park food court. We actually saw a number sitting around with their Koi boxes who had the same thought!
Popcorn Sweet
While it doesn't look appetizing from photos, the taste was amazing. Presented almost like a golden egg, it was quite creamy and had suprise elements of gelatin in the centre. The chocolate brownie that sits below was not only rich, but it gave the dessert texture which made it the perfect component to counter the caramel mousse and really provide harmony.
Coconut Blue
The Coconut Blue was definitely the most instagrammable dessert in the window. Layered white cheese, kalamansi curd and coconut mousse on top of a crisp base had our taste buds buzzing. The texture was similar to the popcorn sweet, and the main flavour throughout was of coconut. The kalamansi which is a popular citrus and kumquat hybrid gave the dessert a citrus blast that was much welcomed. This was a very elegant dessert and we loved every bite!
Aside from the seat availability, we thoroughly enjoyed Koi. We have decided that we will return to take on the four course dessert menu! We can't wait to try the famous Chocolate Mousse Sphere!
