Song Kitchen | Surry Hills

Song Kitchen is a spacious yet intimate venue with different areas to cater for all customers.
We enjoyed a mediterranean inspired menu featuring simple, authentic and delicious food.  The menu changes with the season so be sure to revisit so you don't miss out. Hopefully their dessert menu stays the same (for our sake) as it's amazing. Their pasta is also made in-house daily and is the perfect spot to unwind from a long week at work. One of the best things about eating at Song Kitchen is that all profits go towards important programs against domestic violence run by YWCA NSW.

Negroni Blues and Gin and Tonic
Featured in the photo above are two drinks to start our dining experience; Negroni Blues and Gin and Tonic. The Negron Blues is a mixture of Campari, Four Pillars gin, Punt e Mes vermouth and orange zest. The Gin and Tonic is a mixture of Hendrick’s gin, rosemary, cucumber, tonic and lime.

Polenta Fingers
We've never had Polenta Fingers or what we thought as Polenta Chips in this form before. It's served with generous chilli salt and a hummus dip. The dip was unexpected but definitely needed. If you are sharing these around the table, be sure to get in quick! It's an addictive and tasty starter.
Grilled King Prawns
This delicious dish of grilled prawns with garlic, lime and chilli was very messy to eat however, the prawn was sweet, fresh and had lots of meat. We absolutely love that it is served in the shell, making you peel away the soft flesh of the prawn. There was very little restraint, this baby wanted to be eaten!

Grilled Swordfish
The next dish was very interesting.. the menu said it was a "grilled" swordfish, so our immediate expectations was grill marks and white flesh. What was different was that the fish was grilled enough to just sear the outside, yet pink on the inside. It was the best of both worlds where you can enjoy the freshness of the fish, and yet the pan searing traps all the cooking flavours. You can't see it in this picture but there's a dollop of eggplant puree on the otherside. The eggplant puree was slightly smokey, sour and mooshy. The young fennel, mint and pomegranate salad brought the dish together.

Pince All' Amatriciana
The night continued to surprise us when the Pince All' Amatriciana arrived at the table. Incredible hand crafted thick cut pasta, cooked al dente and tossed in a sauce boasting flavours of tomato, guanciale and parsley. Hidden throughout the dish was succulent pockets of flavour, the meat which tasted like it had been cooking for hours. This was a quality main and you can tell it's cooked with love.

Crepes Suzette
The Crepes Suzette was served thin, warm and had a very generous scoop of vanilla ice cream. However it doesn't end there, bring on the onset of sweet sweet goodness. Candied orange peel provided a strong orange punch and the caramel is not just drizzled, but poured over the crepe. Even though there were so many liquid elements on the dish, the crepe was still quite bouncy. It was a memorable dish for us.

Profiteroles
STOP RIGHT THERE - If you are scrolling through the blog you MUST read this. We have grown up with profiteroles our whole life, but never had anything quite like this. What makes it different you ask? The profiteroles are cooked fresh, so fresh that considering there is melting ice cream and hot chocolate sauce drizzled on top, they were extremely crunchy and very light.
What's best about this dish was the HAZELNUT ice cream that sits in between the cut in half profiterole. We ate it with a spoon but why not pick them up like a dessert slider?

Song Kitchen isn't just a restaurant, but it is also a bar and function room. Whether you come for a party, visit for a drink or two after work or have an intimate dining experience like we did, make sure you order the Profiteroles!
