Sugarsalt Espresso | Mortdale

Located in Mortdale, Sugarsalt espresso opened up in Easter and is the next trendy brunch location. It's conveniently located around the corner from Mortdale station so there's absolutely no excuse to get here. Or if you're somewhat locals like us, you'd be cheering that there's a great new cafe on the block.

Truffled Benny
The truffled benedict on their menu jumped out at Matt. The sourdough was thinly sliced which was perfect to our liking. There are places which serve thick sourdough which takes away the taste of the bacon, egg and hollandaise sauce - as all you taste is bread. There's a modern twist on Sugarsalt Espresso's benny - there's TRUFFLE in the hollandaise sauce! It's mild to begin with but as you continue eating, the flavour becomes stronger in your mouth. It's delicious and the asparagus and sourdough introduces the crunchy texture to the dish.

Mediterranean Baked Eggs with Spiced Beef
Christie ordered the Mediterranean baked eggs with spiced beef from the specials board. In essence, this is a beefed up shakshuka. Shakshuka is a popular dish in Israel that has tomato sauce base, pepper, onions topped with poached eggs! There's a variety of versions and this one is the Mediterranean version - which includes feta and beef mince. The thin sourdough was perfect for this dish and the portion size was just right. It wasn't too much or too little leaving our stomach feeling satisfied.

Tropicana and Summer Passion
We had two refreshing freshly squeezed juices throughout our meal. The tropicana is a mixture of pineapple, mint and orange. The summer passion is a mixture of watermelon, apple, orange and passionfruit.
