Sussex Centre | Haymarket

Sussex Centre was our go to place back when we were at University. We haven't dined there for a few years and everything is modernised. I would go as far to say it's a foodie's heaven spot. I felt like I was traveling in Asia through the food markets; so many options to choose from! We were so excited to see The Sparrow's Mill here with NO QUEUES...had we known this a couple weeks ago, we would've been dining here instead. We sat infront of The Sparrow's Mill and saw countless numbers of deliveries. Other restaurants include Ramen Ikkyu, Bowl in One, Happy Chef (I think this has been here for years and still looks delicious as always), Zan Bou, Oden House, Saigon Pho, Pailou Bar & Cafe (I'd recommend their lemon tea), Ajisai (this reminded us of Japan with their jumbo sized curry plates), Fung Shing Gourmet and Top Choice (we love the smell and sizzling sound from their sizzle plates).

Spicy Dumpling Soft Tofu Soup with Assorted Vegetables
We ordered a spicy dumpling soft tofu soup from The Sparrow's Mill and as expected, it was jampacked with flavour, silky soft tofu, a few soft dumplings with pieces of zucchini and other veggies! Unlike their restaurants, side dishes are not served here but what you do have is a bowl of rice that's different to plain rice.

 The Incredible Gangjung
We think it's hard to go wrong with korean fried chicken. It's all about the batter and sauce rather than the chicken itself in our opinion. The sweet and salty sticky sauce was delicious but can become moreish so remember to crunch on their pickles. The rice cakes were such a surprise as we've never been served rice cakes with fried chicken. Three was actually a perfect amount, any more and it would be overwhelming.

Snow Cheese
The snow cheese fried chicken is a crowd favourite and you can smell it from a mile away. For those who aren't a fan of cheese or a very pungent aroma, you might want to stay away from this one. However for everyone else, it's an absolute must order! The powdered cheese provides a subtly sweet taste and just works perfectly with the fried chicken and pickles. You have to try it to believe it yourself.
