Holy Duck | Chippendale
We choose to sit outside at Holy Duck and noticed lots of comments about the restaurant as by passers walked by. Their initial reaction ranged from commenting about the restaurant name and followed by the feedback of how great the food looked. We've been to Holy Duck numerous times now and can definitely vouch for their customer service, quality of food and hospitality. We dined here at night and enjoyed a couple items on their menu including signature cocktails to start, stemaed pork and duck dumplings, duck san choi bao, sweet and sour pork and holy duck roast (deboned)
However, if you decide to join Holy Duck for lunch, they have a slightly different menu. Though, we wanted to share with you that they have a fantastic offer during November (I'm targeting university students here) where you can order the 'CRAZY CHICK' chicken burger which is available for $8. This is only available for lunch at Kensington Street (dine in only, no takeaway). This offer is valid throughout November 2018 and is not valid in conjunction with any other offer.
Spiced Orange Gin & Tonic (left) and Holy Drink (right)
We kicked off the evening with two cocktails (featured above). Now, for those who know me, I absolutely love a good french martini but am also a fan of G&T. Matt jumped in and ordered the G&T so I decided to try the Holy Drink. The Holy Drink is made from Vodka with fresh kaffir lime, lychee, ginger and coconut water. It was sweet (for those who love sweet cocktails) and strong. The G&T was made with london dry gin and a housemade spice syrup.
Duck San Choi Bao
The duck san choi bao had amazing wok hei making that smokey flavour from the wok prominent. The flavour was absolutely amazing and the filling had all sorts of texture ranging from crunchy, soft, saucy and when you have it all together in one mouthful, it tasted so delicious.
Sweet and Sour Pork
This sweet and sour pork was surprisingly our favourite from this visit - we wanted to nibble on something and decided to order the sweet and sour pork. We didn't really have high expectations on this dish because it's a classic and everyone knows what this dish tastes like - but boy, we were absolutely taken away by the batter. The batter was quite chewy and bouncy, the sauce was perfectly balanced (sweetness, saltiness and sourness) and the ingredients were so fresh. I think I might return just to order the sweet and sour pork with a bowl of rice! How's that for a lunch idea hey? Only if I worked closer to Holy Duck.
Steamed Duck and Pork Dumplings
These little gems looked good and tasted even better. The filling was seasoned just enough to be complemented well with the soy and vinegar sauce. The dumplings were plump and every bite was quite juicy. They can be quite filling so don't be deceived by the size!
