Holy Duck | Chippendale

We must apologise to everyone.. we haven't been posting anything in the last month and a half because we GOT MARRIED and blasted straight off to our honeymoon! We took PLENTY of photos aboard the Allure of the Seas and can't wait to share them with you!

Alas, we are back and have plenty of content to share with you, starting with one of our favourites at Holy Duck. The only place we know of that you can order a deep fried duck... whole. Holy Duck is an amazing establishment located on Kensington Street, Chippendale. They have a different menu for lunch and dinner and are proud of their 'east meets west by day and modern Chinese delights by night' slogan. Holy Duck! is actually part of Chefs Gallery (which is known for for transforming Chinese dishes into modernised favourites).

Crispy Fried Crab & Pork Dumplings
We generally find a higher pork:crab ratio so our expectations were low and we were reluctant to order them until we saw a plate being walked past us. The crab dumplings at Holy Duck are filled with crab meat, they were extremely crispy and full of flavour from the succulent crab. It's served with sweet chilli sauce but it's perfect on its own.

Spring Rolls with Duck, Vegetables and Mushroom
Almost everything is served with duck at Holy Duck, even the smaller items like spring rolls. The spring roll was flaky, super crunchy and devoured in seconds. The mushroom pieces were bite size with shredded duck. The vegetables combined all flavours together. It's the best taste when spring rolls are fried correctly i.e. not soggy/overly oily.

Signature Crispy Duck (Half Size)
The signature crispy duck is on another level, a level out of this world. Holy Duck has redefined the meaning of "crispy duck". Unlike most restaurants where crispy duck is served as a whole duck with a very thin piece of crispy skin on top.. well as we mentioned before, the ducks at Holy Duck are deep fried to ensure the duck is moist and tender while providing a layer of crispy skin surrounding the whole duck. Served with DIY pancake ingredients (spring onion, cucumber and hoisin sauce), it is a unique experience unlike anywhere you will find. There may be restaurants out there that serve incredible duck, but none do it like this that's for sure!

Stir Fried Rice Noodles with Wagyu Beef
If you are after a subtle wok hei with that slight wok smokey flavour then look no further. The stir fried rice noodles was well balanced and the wagyu beef was served very tender. If you have never eaten stir fried rice noodles before, the great thing with this dish is the texture. The texture of the thick, bouncy noodles complimented well with the crunch of the bean sprouts and the resistance from the meat. Mixed together with an oily "wok hei", it is an incredible dish and perfectly matched with some leftover crispy duck from the main above.

Lychee Panna Cotta Crumble
The lychee panna cotta crumble with raspberry sorbet was a nice palette cleanser and a refreshing dessert to end the evening. The flavour of the lychee flavour was absent however in the panna cotta butnonetheless, the raspberry sorbet completely consumed the flavour of the dessert.

Coconut Cheesecake Stack
This is not your usual sliced cheesecake. When this dessert was brought out to our table, we were so surprised about the way a 'cheesecake' stack was presented. It's so pretty and we didn't want to break it! I was thinking the best way to eat this was eating it layer by layer. Before I could even suggest that to Matt, he stabbed his fork right through and sliced the stack. Either way, the cheesecake mousse, zing from the raspberry and crunchyness from the pastry made this dessert a delicious one!
