Bistro Mekong | Castlecrag

Bistro Mekong recently launched at Quadrangle Shopping Village in Castlecrag. Bistro Mekong promises to showcase the best of Indochine cuisine but with a twist. Their menu is designed for sharing and is the perfect local spot for a casual dinner with friends or family. Not for us though as we're located the complete opposite direction! Their flavours are inspired by countries along the Mekong River. If you are in Castlecrag and are craving some tasty Indo-chinese food, Bistro Mekong is open Tuesday - Sunday.

Bistro Mekong Spritz
On arrival, we saw endless drinks and our favourite was the Bistro Mekong Spirtz. It's made with Aperol, Pink grapefruit, mint and designed by Sydney's celebrated mixologist, Grant Collins. The launch was quite crowded so we weren't able to cover all items served on the night.

Crispy Rice Curry Lettuce Cups
These little lettuce cups were memorable; filled with flavour and the wok hei is strong. The subtle curry flavour from the rice was tasty. These little bite sized gem tastes similar to a San Choi Bao. This was served for the launch of Bistro Mekong and their full menu can be found on this link

Squid Ink cups
We were enjoying many cocktails and was way too excited when we saw these beautiful squid ink cups! They were filled with prawns, corns and yes, you can finish the entire thing! It's actually quite light, crunchy and has lots of flavour. These unfortunately were only served at the launch and is not found on their menu. However, if this is a taste of the flavours offered then we're excited to revisit.

Smoked Salmon on Tofu Cracker
These were quite different on the palette. The smokey flavour was strong however we couldn't taste the chilli. It's a Vietnamese twist served on a tofu cracker. Definite something to get your tastebuds excited.  We found a similar item on their menu with 'fried tofu' - we're not sure if it will be served like a tofu cracker!

As we were researching the divine menu, we skipped to their dessert section and saw.... BAKED TARO CHEESECAKE with LYCHEE ICE CREAM. Now we must return to try this. Hopefully we don't miss the last bus like on the launch night - however, we caught a luxurious Uber that catered for all 5 of us. What a wonderful night with great company!
